How to move a group of vertices to the same z coordinate?

Period key (non numpad) sets the 3D cursor as the pivot that grabbing, rotating, and scaling happens relative to. You can also do S, Z, 0 to scale to zero along the Z axis, then set the median Z to 0 in the Properties window. But Richard’s way is probably faster.

How to put all the vertices in the same place?

select the vertices and press S Z 0 to put all the vertices in the same z-position, then move then set the ‘Median Z’ value in the transform properties. In Edit Mode select the vertices and use scaling S, X to constrain it to the x-axis, after that you can numerically input the scaling value (in your case zero) 0, confirm with enter or LMB

Is there way to snap a vertex to an axis?

Snap (Shift-S) the 3D-cursor to a vertex on the mirror axis. Press Alt-D to create a duplicate object. Press ‘.’ (period-key) to force transformation around the 3D-cursor. That helps a bit, thanks! If you modeled the car so it is facing in the X direction (if you go into front mode [Num 1] and are looking at the front of the car) then select the verticies at the middle where you need them aligned. Hit S, X, 0, Enter. That will scale all the selected verticies along the X axis until all of the X distance between them is 0.
