Why are there so many new programming languages?
Mostly people just make new languages because they can, and every once in a while somebody develops a language that’s good enough that a lot of people start using it. That doesn’t mean that unpopular languages are bad. Some programming languages are also much easier to learn than others.

It was developed as a learning tool for computer programming which meant it was easy to learn. It was favored by Apple in the company’s early days, because of its ease of use and power.
