What does predict command in Stata do?
predict calculates the requested statistic for all possible observations, whether they were used in fitting the model or not. predict does this for standard options 1 through 3 and generally does this for estimator-specific options 4.
What is XB Stata?
xb calculates the linear prediction from the fitted model. The statistic produced by stdp can be thought of as the standard error of the predicted expected value, or mean index, for the observation’s covariate pattern. This is also commonly referred to as the standard error of the fitted value.
What is the fitted regression equation?
A linear regression line has an equation of the form Y = a + bX, where X is the explanatory variable and Y is the dependent variable. The slope of the line is b, and a is the intercept (the value of y when x = 0).
What does ## mean in Stata?
1 Answer. 1. 11. You can put a # between two variables to create an interaction–indicators for each combination of the categories of the variables. You can put ## instead to specify a full factorial of the variables—main effects for each variable and an interaction.
What are predicted values in regression?
We can use the regression line to predict values of Y given values of X. For any given value of X, we go straight up to the line, and then move horizontally to the left to find the value of Y. The predicted value of Y is called the predicted value of Y, and is denoted Y’.
How do you predict a residual?
To find a residual you must take the predicted value and subtract it from the measured value.
How is a fitted value calculated in statistics?
A fitted value is a statistical model’s prediction of the mean response value when you input the values of the predictors, factor levels, or components into the model. Suppose you have the following regression equation: y = 3X + 5. If you enter a value of 5 for the predictor, the fitted value is 20.
How can I calculate standard errors for adjusted predictions?
We can use the delta method to get the variance of a function of random variable. As model coefficients are themselves random variables, we can use the delta method to get the variance of conditional and marginal means, because they are functions of the model ceofficients.
How to get the residuals of a prediction?
We can obtain the residuals of each prediction by using the residuals command and storing these values in a variable named whatever we’d like. In this case, we’ll use the name resid_price: We can view the actual price, the predicted price, and the residuals all side-by-side using the list command again:
Do you use formula to calculate prediction intervals?
The standard error of the prediction just has an extra MSE term added that the standard error of the fit does not. (More on this a bit later.) Again, we won’t use the formula to calculate our prediction intervals in real-life practice. We’ll let statistical software such as Minitab do the calculations for us.
