What kind of model do you use for multiple times series?
Generally when you have multiple time-series you would use some kind of vector-based model to model them all simultaneously. The natural extension of the ARIMA model for this purpose is the VARIMA (Vector ARIMA) model.
Are there text books for multiple time series?
As Ben mentioned, the text book methods for multiple time series are VAR and VARIMA models. In practice though, I have not seen them used that often in the context of demand forecasting. Much more common, including what my team currently uses, is hierarchical forecasting (see here as well ).
What happens when there are multiple time series in Excel?
If there is no data point for a given slot, the line connecting points would have extended across the unpopulated slot. If there are multiple data points for a given slot, such as the four weekly points in each month in our first attempt above, these points will all be aligned with the center of the slot.
What happens when you have 1200 time series?
The fact that you have 1200 time-series means that you will need to specify some heavy parametric restrictions on the cross-correlation terms in the model, since you will not be able to deal with free parameters for every pair of time-series variables.
Is it possible to model time series data y?
However, under a special circumstance, we can model time series data y using time series data x, when x and y are both I (1) process and cointegrated. Basically, cointegration means there is an amplifying effect in between x and y.
How to apply ML approaches for time series?
We can see now the effect of Sliding Window. The next pair of inputs-outputs that the model would have for finding the mapping function is obtained by moving the window one time step to the future, and proceed the same as we did at the previous step. Ok then. How do we apply this to out current dataset?
How to predict multiple time series at once?
Here I will demonstrate how to train a single model to forecast multiple time series at the same time. This technique usually creates powerful models that help teams win machine learning competitions and can be used in your project. And you don’t need deep learning models to do that! In machine learning, more data usually means better predictions.
What is the use of time series classification?
Let’s have a look at some time series classification use cases to understand this difference. ECG, or electrocardiogram, records the electrical activity of the heart and is widely be used to diagnose various heart problems.
What causes strong correlation between two time series variables?
This strong correlation may be purely caused by the fact that the two time series variables have non-constant mean. This phenomenon is called spurious relationship. However, under a special circumstance, we can model time series data y using time series data x, when x and y are both I (1) process and cointegrated.
What are the advantages of grouping time series?
The advantage of this approach is that by grouping similar time series together, you can take advantage of the correlations and similarities between them to find patterns (such a seasonal variations) that might be difficult to spot with a single time series.
