THE EASY WAY TO DRYWALL AN ARCH
- Use drywall that is 1/2 inch thick and fasten it over the arch.
- Cut drywall to archway.
- Add more screws along the edge of the curve as needed.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Measure and place a double layer of ¼” drywall under the archway.
- Screw the drywall into place.
How big can an opening be in a load bearing wall?
Any opening that’s 6 feet or less can have just one 2×4 under the beam. This creates a bearing point 1.5 inches wide. Any opening wider than 6 feet should have a minimum of two 2x4s under each end of the beam.
