What is the difference between object detection and image classification?
Image Classification helps us to classify what is contained in an image. Image Localization will specify the location of single object in an image whereas Object Detection specifies the location of multiple objects in the image. Finally, Image Segmentation will create a pixel wise mask of each object in the images.
How did we just use an image classifier to detect objects?
Object detection utilizes an image classifier to figure out what is present in an image and where. These tasks have been made easier through the use of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) which have made it possible to detect multiple classes in a single pass of the image.
How is object detection used in image classification?
Object detection combines classification and localization to determine what objects are in the image or video and specify where they are in the image. It applies classification to distinct objects and uses bounding boxes, as shown below. Object detection is useful in identifying objects in an image or video.
Which is a separate task from object detection?
A separate task from classification is localization, or determining the position of the classified objects in the image or video. Object detection combines classification and localization to determine what objects are in the image or video and specify where they are in the image.
How is image segmentation different from object detection?
The regions may not take up the entire image, but the goal of image segmentation is to highlight foreground elements and make it easier to evaluate them. Image segmentation provides pixel-by-pixel details of an object, making it different from classification and object detection.
When does image classification just don’t cut it?
Computer Vision Part 5: Object Detection, when Image Classification just doesn’t cut it. In the previous post, we had a quite extensive discussion on the most influential deep learning architectures for image classification.
