How do you interpret a data plot?
You interpret a scatterplot by looking for trends in the data as you go from left to right: If the data show an uphill pattern as you move from left to right, this indicates a positive relationship between X and Y. As the X-values increase (move right), the Y-values tend to increase (move up).
What does it mean to interpret a graph?
Interpreting graphs involves understanding what the shape of a curve represents in real life situations. We should also understand what slope means and how to interpret what a high or low slope value represents. An understanding of plotting points is also important.
How do you describe a graph that goes up and down?
Line graphs usually describe trends or changes. With these, it is quite common to use different words to describe increases or decreases. You can also describe the graph staying the same using the verb phrases ‘remain unchanged’ or ‘remain constant’. Small changes up and down are called ‘fluctuations’.
What’s the difference between a box plot and a reference plot?
Obvious differences between box plots – see examples (1) and (2), (1) and (3), or (2) and (4). Any obvious difference between box plots for comparative groups is worthy of further investigation in the Items at a Glance reports. Your school box plot is much higher or lower than the national reference group box plot.
What should you do with an interval plot?
If your interval plot has groups, assess and compare the center and spread of groups. Determine whether any confidence intervals overlap. If the intervals for two means do not overlap, the population means may be statistically significant.
