What is pen thickness?
This is determined by the “point size,” which refers to the diameter of the nib, or tip, of a pen. The sizes are listed in millimeters, and the lower the number, the finer the line. For example: 0.5mm is somewhat fine, 0.7mm is the most commonly used, and 1.6mm is quite bold.
How do you make a thick line with a fountain pen?
If you notice the nib have a cut line on the tip, if you pressure the nib against the paper it will open, then making a thicker line. Some nibs don’t like this at all, they get dry of ink, and then you need to tap it a little bit, to get ink back on the tip.
How do you measure the thickness of a pen?

How can you thicken ink?
To thicken up a thin ink easily you can leave the lid off overnight so the water evaporates. Alternatively, add some gum arabic which you can get from art supply shops. Just add a small amount at a time and stir well until it’s the right consistency.
How thick is a sharpie mark?
Clocking in the thinnest is black Sharpie at about 118 millionths of an inch (~30 microns) and blue Dykem was the thickest at 314 millionths (86 microns). [Tom] quips that since we now know the thickness, you could even use ink as a shim.

Is 0.5 or 0.7 smaller?
The number for the lead is the measurement of the lead thickness in millimeters. 0.7 mm is more than 0.5 mm, so 0.7 lead is bigger than 0.5 lead.
