How do you fix footnote spacing?
The Footnote separator line appears. Select it and choose Format>Paragraph. If there is space after, set it to 0. You can also change Line spacing: to Multiple and At: to about 0.5 to reduce the space the separator takes.
How do I get rid of space between footnotes?
When in Draft mode, you need to click on Show Notes in the Footnotes section of the References tab of the ribbon and then select the Footnote Separator from the dropdown at the top of the footnotes pane and format the paragraph to remove the space before it.
How do I change the header spacing?

- Check that your top margin is set to 1 inch.
- Check the page margin layout settings.
- Make sure you don’t have extra space in the header.
- Make sure there isn’t extra space between your text and the top of the page.
For the most part it is these two settings—Bottom on the Margins tab and Footer on the Layout tab—that together define the distance between the body text and the footer text. You can reduce the distance between the text and the footer by decreasing the Bottom setting and/or increasing the Footer setting.
Is there a space between Footnotes?
Leave no space between the superscript (note number) in the text and the word or mark of punctuation it follows. Place the superscript before a dash but after all other marks of punctuation.
Why is there an extra space in my Footnotes?
Turns out this is caused by something called a footnote separator which you have to go to Draft mode (under the View tab in MS Word 07 and up) to edit it. In the drop-down list that appears in the Footnotes area, choose Footnote Separator. Delete any extra spaces, carriage returns etc.
