Where DOI put the DOI in APA citation?
APA
- Provide DOIs over URLs whenever possible.
- If no DOI is available, use the source’s URL in the citation.
- Place the DOI or URL at the end of the citation, formatting the rest of the citation as normal for an equivalent non-digital source.
- A DOI should be preceded by a “doi:” label (note the lowercase).
What if you can’t find the DOI?
If you still can’t find the DOI, you can look it up on the website CrossRef.org (use the “Search Metadata” option). It’s important to note that not all electronic materials will have a DOI. The DOI system is a fairly recent concept, so books and articles published prior to 2000 are less likely to have DOIs.
What if a journal article has no DOI?
When an article does not have a DOI, note the journal in which the article was published. You will then do a Web search for the homepage of the journal. When you have found the journal homepage, you can copy and paste the URL into your citation.
