Is a list of tables necessary?
APA doesn’t require you to include a list of tables or a list of figures. However, it is advisable to do so if your text is long enough to feature a table of contents and it includes a lot of tables and/or figures.
What is the difference between table of contents and list of tables?
TABLE OF CONTENTS – The part of a thesis where you find the list of the parts of document organized in the order in which the parts appear. TABLE OF TABLES – A list of tables where can you find the page the tables appear on.

Why is the table of contents not updating in Word?
Typically, the reason is that you’ve forgotten to update the TOC/LOT/LOF – these lists don’t update automatically. Go to the far left of that tab, and click the Update Table button in the Table of Contents group. If asked, select the option to Update entire table and click OK.
Why are some of my tables not listed correctly?

However, when a table does include the context ribbon tab for ‘Table Tools > Layout’, that ribbon has many additional options including the options to add full rows or columns to just the table from the ribbon. Employees have been sending me numerous documents where the List of Figures / List of Tables have suddenly stopped updating and only do so when re-inserted. And each time, the Style, under options, has changed from Caption – Figure or Caption – Table to Bubble text!
