What happens when you hit backspace key in Vim?
In Vim, when I hit the backspace key in the insert mode, it leaves ^? character and does not delete the character it is suppose to delete. This happens in the command mode too.
Is it possible to erase a character in Vim?
Please note that I don’t want to install vim or set nocompatibilty. That’s correct behavior for vi, and it does erase the character, it just doesn’t show it by replacing it with a blank like in vim. It will be apparent when you overwrite the erased character with another character, or switch back to command mode.

But I guess the above behavior would be achievable. Backspace working as said above. Delete key is however acting weird.
