What is ACPI Cpufreq?
The ACPI CPUfreq driver is a kernel driver that controls the frequency of a particular CPU through ACPI, which enables the communication between the kernel and the hardware.
What is Intel Pstate?
What is a P-state? When someone refers to a P-state, generally only the frequency is talked about. For example, on my Intel® Core™ processor, P0 is 2.3 GHz, and P1 is 980 MHz. In truth, a P-state is both a frequency and voltage operating point. Both are scaled as the P-state increases.
Should I disable C states?
Disabling C-States can help with stability but it isn’t likely to help if you aren’t doing anything extreme. Disabling C-States will prevent your processor from going into a low power state and will significantly increase idle power consumption.
How to replace Intel pstate with ACPI cpufreq?
The idea here is to replace the intel-pstate CPU power management driver with the acpi-cpufreq one. This allows for better performance and slightly more efficient power use in some cases, as shown here. To disable the default intel-pstate driver, you need to edit /etc/default/grub:
How to change CPU scaling driver to Intel _ pstate?
I was trying miscellaneous stuff (most of which I don’t even remember) in an effort to change the CPU frequency because it was always fixed to 1.2GHz (minimum). Currently the acpi-cpufreq driver is used: and I want to switch back to intel_pstate but I don’t know how to achieve this.
How to change the driver for cpufreq-info?
However, the driver for cpufreq-info is still intel-pstate. Please tell me how to change the driver for cpufreq-* command. The above might not be possible if intel-pstate is enabled with HWP support (turning that off requires a reboot with kernel command line parameter intel_pstate=no_hwp if I recall correctly, more info here ).
Is it possible to disable the Intel pstate driver?
With recent kernels, it is possible to disable it, in some cases, after boot. To do so, write off to /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/status; if this is successful (see the documentation for limitations), you should then be able to use the ACPI driver instead.
