Why would you use iSCSI?
iSCSI is used to facilitate data transfers over intranets and to manage storage over long distances. It can be used to transmit data over local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), or the Internet and can enable location-independent data storage and retrieval.
What is iSCSI and SCSI?
iSCSI stands for Internet Small Computer Systems Interface. iSCSI supports encrypting the network packets, and decrypts upon arrival at the target. SCSI is a block-based set of commands that connects computing devices to networked storage, including spinning up storage media and data reads/writes.
What is iSCSI device?
iSCSI is a block protocol for storage networking and runs the very common SCSI storage protocol across a network connection which is usually Ethernet. iSCSI, like Fibre Channel, can be used to create a Storage Area Network (SAN). iSCSI traffic can be run over a shared network or a dedicated storage network.
What is SBD pacemaker?
SBD (STONITH Block Device) provides a node fencing mechanism for Pacemaker-based clusters through the exchange of messages via shared block storage (SAN, iSCSI, FCoE, etc.). SBD needs a watchdog on each node to ensure that misbehaving nodes are really stopped.
How do I start Stonith SBD?
Follow these steps to set up HA using STONITH:
- Identify the SBD device.
- Initialize the SBD device.
- Configure the cluster.
- Set up the softdog watchdog.
- Join the node to the cluster.
- Validate the cluster.
- Configure the resources to the cluster.
- Test the failover process.
Is NFS faster than iSCSI?
Summary? It’s quite obvious, iSCSI protocol gives higher performance than NFS. As to NFS server performance on different operating systems, we can see that NFS server performance on Linux is higher than that on Windows.
Do you need more than one SBD device for pacemaker?
If you want to use more than one SBD device per Pacemaker, make sure to deploy multiple iSCSI target servers and connect one SBD from each iSCSI target server. We recommend using either one SBD device or three.
How to create a virtual machine for a pacemaker?
You first need to create the iSCSI target virtual machines. iSCSI target servers can be shared with multiple Pacemaker clusters. Deploy new SLES 12 SP1 or higher virtual machines and connect to them via ssh. The machines don’t need to be large. A virtual machine size like Standard_E2s_v3 or Standard_D2s_v3 is sufficient.
How to set up a pacemaker in SLES?
For SLES 12 SP4/SP5, the version must be at least resource-agents-4.3.018.a7fb5035-3.30.1. For SLES 15/15 SP1, the version must be at least resource-agents-4.3.0184.6ee15eb2-4.13.1. In some cases, Pacemaker creates many processes and thereby exhausts the allowed number of processes.
When to use Linux pacemaker in a cluster?
When planning and deploying Linux Pacemaker clustered nodes and SBD devices, it is essential for the overall reliability of the complete cluster configuration that the routing between the VMs involved and the VM (s) hosting the SBD device (s) is not passing through any other devices like NVAs.
