How do you do a graceful shutdown?
There are two ways to perform a graceful shut down.
- Via GUI: Click on Device tab > Setup link > Operations tab. Click on shutdown device under device operations. Click Yes on the confirmation prompt.
- Via CLI: Issue the command: request shutdown system. Sample output. > request shutdown system.
Is it safe to shutdown PC with power button?
Do not turn off your computer with that physical power button. That is only a power-on button. It is very important that you shut down your system properly. Simply turning the power off with the power switch can cause serious file system damage.
If you’re just hitting the power button and the computer does a normal shutdown sequence, then you’re absolutely fine. The power button in that case just sends an ACPI command to Windows, telling it to shut down normally. Exactly the same as going start->shut down.

Using the power button as described will act the same as shutting down using software. It goes through the entire shutdown process. Is it safe to go into standby power mode?
Standby power mode—Power is supplied only to the service processor and the cooling fans. It is safe to power off the appliance from this mode. You can gracefully shut down the appliance by using the shutdown command or the Power button on the appliance front panel. Check the color of the Power Status LED (see Front Panel ).
