Can you reuse variable names in Python?
In Python, we may reuse the same variable to store values of any type. A variable is similar to the memory functionality found in most calculators, in that it holds one value which can be retrieved many times, and that storing a new value erases the old.
Can you reuse variables in Java?
As a general principle, do not reuse variables to point to different objects. This is extremely error prone. In your specific example, since you are recreating the connection object in each call to SqlThingyMethod there is likely no benefit to storing it in a field. Use a local variable.
What is reusability in Java?
Reusability: As the name specifies, reusability is a mechanism which facilitates you to reuse the fields and methods of the existing class when you create a new class. You can use the same fields and methods already defined in the previous class.
When do you reuse a variable in Java?
By reusing variables you are only reusing the name that points to a location in memory. Descriptive names on initializations can only win you clarity (Assuming Java and no primitive OCD). Unless you’re into code obfuscation by hand or irritating other developers.
Is it good practice to reuse variables in a method?
IMO best practice is to use short enough methods which do one thing only, eliminating the whole problem. Variable reuse in a method is a strong sign that you should refactor/split it. So my answer would be that you shouldn’t reuse them, because if you do then it would be that much harder to refactor it later.
Why do you not reuse variables in unit tests?
If it is difficult to put the exact purpose for all re-uses in a short name, it is best to just use distinct variables. The biggest reason I don’t reuse variables (especially in unit tests) is because it introduces an unecessary code path, one that is hard to test and debug.
Can a variable be re-used in a counting loop?
In some cases, the same variable name can be re-used; for example i in a simple counting loop. In these cases, you should of course make sure that the variables are in their own scope.
