How to mount a Clonezilla IMG to extract files?
I have a large Clonezilla image of a CentOS server that had a 500GB drive partitioned into boot, OS, and data partitions. I would like to mount the backup image so I can extract some files as I no longer have suitable hardware or space for a VM to restore it to.
Where do I put the Clonezilla Live File?
You have to put the clonezilla live files in a FAT, ext2/3, reiserfs or any grub supported partition. If you do not have such a partition, you can use gparted to resize your partition and create another partition to put clonezilla live.
Can you use Clonezilla Live in GRUB2?
Besides, from Clonezilla live >= 2.6.2-15, you can use only the Clonezilal live iso file in grub2. Thanks to Phil Webster for this hint: First, download the Clonezilla live iso, e.g., clonezilla-live-2.7.2-39-amd64.iso. Then put it in the partition of your OS, say /dev/sda2, which might be mounted as /boot.
Can a Clonezilla gzip more than one file?
AFAIK Clonezilla always “number” the files as it doesn’t know up front in all cases if more than one file is necessary (i.e. because of compressed filesize over 2Gb). It is unlikely that you can successfully combine the first file with the other 4 files, but you should be able to combine the other 4 and gzip -d the combined result.
How to mount a Clonezilla partition image read-only?
You can mount a Clonezilla partition image read-only using concat-fuse, ratarmount and imagemount (from the partclone-utils package) in combination to concatenate the chunks, decompress and mount the filesystem image on the fly. This method does not write anything to disk besides the index that is built to randomly access the compressed data.
Can You restore a single file from a Clonezilla image?
Once you created an image file with Clonezilla, you can only restore complete partitions or drives, that means Clonezilla does not support you restore single file from the Clonezilla image. But there still has ways to solve it.
