What is apt-get for Fedora?
APT is the package manager/dependency solver for the Debian ecosystem, i.e. it manages . deb packages installed by the DPKG program. Fedora software is based on . rpm packages, and thus uses DNF, the package manager/dependency solver for the RPM program, instead.
How do you purge in DNF?
To uninstall a particular package, as well as any packages that depend on it, run the following command as root :
- dnf remove package_name…
- ~]# dnf remove totem rhythmbox sound-juicer.
- Removing a Package Group.
- dnf remove @group.
Is there an equivalent to apt-get purge in Yum?
There is no equivalent for “purge”, just use yum remove package. Also you can use yum reinstall package, when you want to reinstall some package… Actually, as explained in Justin Ethier’s answer, yum remove is equivalent to apt-get purge. @Gilles Justin Ethier says yum remove is “not guaranteed to preserve configuration files.”.
Can you use dpkg and apt-get on Fedora?
I believe (and I haven’t used fedora full time) it’s yum. so man yum. dpkg and apt-get are a debian thing. the main difference between distro’s is usually their package manager, imo. and no, using fedora you would/should never use apt-get. you’d basically end up converting fedora into debian if you got it working.
