Organisations are flouting their requirements Although most organisations have adopted a soft opt-in consent model, many refuse to do so. They have instead set up a ‘cookie wall’, which blocks users’ access until they consent to the site’s tracking activities. They can either agree to the site’s terms or go elsewhere.
Opt-out cookies are cookies created by a website on your browser folder that enables you to block that same website from installing future cookies. This prevents the third party ad server from tracking your page preferences within a website or among websites within their network.
Is there a way to opt out of cookies?
Because users have no control over how cookies are used, many websites now have privacy policies that describe what personal information they collect and how they use it. With better transparency of data usage, users can make a more informed choice between agreeing with the use of cookies or choosing to opt-out.
When you delete cookies from your computer, you erase information saved in your browser, including your account passwords, website preferences, and settings. Deleting your cookies can be helpful if you share your computer or device with other people and don’t want them to see your browsing history.
So, while cookies can be a legitimate privacy concern, privacy policies can ease the worries that users may have when it comes to how their personal information is being used. Whether you should enable or disable cookies depends on your level of comfort and whether or not you are okay with websites keeping track of your visits.
Why are there no cookies on the Internet?
Because cookies cannot be used on their own to trace or identify a person, they do not fall under Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and pose less of a threat than other online dangers and security threats on the web.
