Why does my external hard drive go to sleep?
It may be that your USB destination storage device is going to sleep at some point either during the backup job or after. Make sure that Sleep mode is turned off for the USB port devices in “Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus controllers” area.
