If you use a USB 2.0 extension cable, then yes your speeds will drop because USB 3.0 traffic runs across a completely different set of pins compared to USB 2.0, and a USB 2.0 extension cable would not connect those pins between the hard drive and the PC.

Why is my external HDD not recognized in Device Manager?
If you do not and the HDD doesn’t appear at all in Device Manager, the 7577 has 3x USB-A ports. Are you saying that your external HDD is not recognized in any of them even though other USB 2.0 devices work fine in all of them?
