How do I enable native resolution?
Right-click your desktop and select Screen resolution. From the window that appears, click the Resolution box and select a resolution other than the one recommended for your monitor (this is your monitor’s native resolution). After selecting a lower resolution, you’ll see its results.
Why is my native resolution not 1920×1080?
You may want to check which driver is installed for your monitor as well. This could be a driver issue, Windows update bug, or even a monitor driver issue. If the monitor driver is the wrong one, or isn’t configured/running properly, it may limit the resolutions you can use.

The monitor is only connected via HDMI so it’s not ‘native’ or anything like that, windows only recognizes it as an external display. The graphics chip reads the EDID of the monitor and stores that as the “native resolution”.
Can you change the resolution of an external monitor?
Upon listing All available modes for the adapter, only the 640×480 resolution was on the list. The video driver was uninstalled but upon reboot the system remains the same with external monitor connections stuck at 640×480. (I tried Janette_Z’s procedure but it made no difference.)
