- Format the disk.
- Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
- Select the Source.
- Select the Destination.
- Begin the Clone.
- Congratulations – your first clone is in progress!

Does Carbon Copy Cloner delete files?
With this setting, CCC won’t delete anything from the destination. If a file exists on the destination and not on the source, that file will be left in place on the destination. If CCC is updating a file on the destination, the older version of the file will be moved to CCC’s SafetyNet folder.
What are Carbon Copy Cloner snapshots?
CCC’s Snapshot Navigator allows you to step through older versions of your backups and get a preview of your files as they were at specific points in time.
Is there a way to revert to time machine?
If you prefer to use an alternative to Time Machine, such as the free Carbon Copy Cloner, you should still be able to revert to the older version of the OS using our guide. It needs to be a complete backup of your system from before the upgrade.
How do I restore from Time Machine backup?
Hold down Command + R until the Apple logo appears. When the options appear on screen, choose ‘Restore From Time Machine Backup’ and click Continue. The next screen will show the words Restore from Time Machine, click Continue again. Next, select your Restore Source – this should be your backup drive.
