Do you need Windows 7 to install BootCamp?
This question has been posted before ( Bootcamp says “requires windows 7” in Windows 10 ). I thought I would add to the discussion. I had the same problem described in a previous post where I tried to install bootcamp support with the setup application for windows and got a message saying that boot camp requires windows 7.
Can you use bootcamp manager on Windows 10?
Windows 10 and Bootcamp have been running without any apparent issues. I frequently use Bootcamp Manager in the system tray to switch to the Mac OS. No issues on the Mac side. The only reason I posted was to share my experience in case someone else was having the same problem.

When I open the Bootcamp64 xml file in notepad it says product version 4.0.4033. I hope this helps. A 2008 Mac does not cleanly support W10. W10 BC drivers do not support the 2008 hardware and vice-a-versa. Is there a specific reason you want to use W10? Hmmmm perhaps I wasn’t clear.

If you downloaded BC drivers using BC Assistant, there is a file called Bootcamp.xml, which can be edited via TextEdit and can show you the Product Version. Can you post the Product Version which gave you the error message?
