What is RAIM outage?
Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (RAIM ) assesses the integrity of the Global Positioning System (GPS) signals. This system predicts outages for a specified geographical area. You can use RAIM to predict outages for a planned route or specific airport.
What is RAIM and when is it required?
RAIM is considered available if 24 GPS satellites or more are operative. If the number of GPS satellites is 23 or fewer, RAIM availability must be checked using approved ground-based prediction software. Several GPS-related systems also provide integrity signals separate from GPS.
Does Foreflight have RAIM capability?
Yes. RAIM is available in the Flights view Navlog for Performance customers.
What is NPA airspace?
Non Precision Approach (NPA): Report that calculates GPS. coverage for specific airports (POA, POD and any relevant alternates) for a specific time.
What happens if RAIM is lost in flight?
If RAIM is lost during flight, the pilot has no assurance of the accuracy of the GPS position. 2) At least one satellite, in addition to those required for navigation, must be in view for the receiver to perform the RAIM function.
How many satellites are required for RAIM?
five satellites
A minimum of five satellites is required to detect a bad satellite; at least six satellites are required to detect and exclude a bad satellite from the navigation solution if your receiver has a fault detection and exclusion (FDE) RAIM algorithm.
Where is ADSB out required?
Under the rule, ADS-B Out performance is required to operate in: Class A, B, and C airspace. Class E airspace within the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia at and above 10,000 feet MSL, excluding the airspace at and below 2,500 feet above the surface.
Can you have WAAS without RAIM?
WAAS enhances the reliability of the GPS system and thus no longer requires a RAIM check if WAAS coverage is confirmed to be available along the entire route of flight; in this case the pilot can plan the flight to a destination and file an alternate airport using only the WAAS navigation capabilities.
