What is the objective of the obstacle limitation surfaces?
Obstacle control surfaces are necessary to ensure that the existing and planned aeroplane operations at the aerodrome are able to be conducted safely and to prevent the aerodromes from becoming unusable. The two following sets of surfaces are intended to meet this purpose.
What is Obstacle Identification Surface?
Obstruction identification surfaces (OIS) determine which objects are vertical obstructions. An object is considered a vertical obstruction if it penetrates the OIS surface. Surfaces are used to support planning and design activities.
What is the purpose of the aerodrome?
In formal terminology, as defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), an aerodrome is “a defined area on land or water (including any buildings, installations, and equipment) intended to be used either wholly or in part for the arrival, departure, and surface movement of aircraft.”
What is approach surface?
An imaginary surface longitudinally centered on the extended centerline of the runway, beginning at the end of the primary surface and rising outward and upward to a specified height above the established airport elevation.
What is transitional surface?
Transitional Surface: A surface extending outward and upward, at right angles to the runway centerline and runway centerline extended, from the sides of the Primary Surface and the Approach Surfaces. The slope is 7-1 (14.3 percent) and the surface extends until it intersects the Horizontal or Conical Surface.
What are the criteria for inspecting Obstacle Limitation Surfaces?
