What does an altitude indicator do?
The altitude indicator tells the pilot how high the aircraft flies with regard to a set barometric pressure or level. This is usually mean sea level (MSL or QNH) but when flying at flight levels the level is 1013 hPa/mbar or 29.92 inHg (QNE) and around mountain areas field elevation is sometimes used (QFE).
What is reversionary mode?
The PFD also has a “reversionary mode” which is capable of displaying all information shown on the MFD (for example, engine gauges and navigational information). This capability is provided in case of an PFD failure.
What does the attitude indicator ( AI ) tell you?
Attitude indicator. The attitude indicator (AI), formerly known as the gyro horizon or artificial horizon, is a flight instrument that informs the pilot of the aircraft orientation relative to Earth’s horizon, and gives an immediate indication of the smallest orientation change.
Are there any aircraft that use attitude indicators?
Today, attitude indicators are found in nearly all aircraft, and many general aviation aircraft still use instruments based on the earliest technology. Beginning in 2003, the Federal Aviation Administration allowed the use of electric attitude indicators in non-commercial aircraft under 12,500 pounds as backups to the gyro systems.
How are Bank and pitch attitude indicators used?
Bank and pitch attitudes are displayed so that the pilot’s sensing of the gyro indication is the same as the interpretation of the relation between the wings of the aircraft and the natural horizon during visual flight. This gyro possesses all the features of our industry standard model and includes pickoffs for autopilot systems.
How does the attitude indicator on a L-3 work?
