Can a CFI provide instrument instruction?
A CFI cannot provide any and all training on a basic initial CFI certificate. To provide instrument training, other than the basic training for example in a private pilot certificate, the CFI must be qualified as an “instrument” instructor also. FAR 61.195 offers limitations on what training CFIs may provide.
Is an instrument rating required for CFI?

Is it hard to become a CFI?
The pilot who had never failed a checkride faces the thought of failure since this is the hardest certificate to get. Unfortunately the stats back up some of the fear. In one FSDO area, initial CFI applicants succeed only 18% of the time. The pass rate is low for a few reasons.

Can a CFI act as an instructor in flight?
A few other exceptions include when a CFI is acting as a sport pilot CFI, but other than that, to act as an instructor in flight operations, they need to meet some sort of medical requirement. This can be done with a minimum of a third class FAA medical or equivalent compliance with BasicMed.
Do you have to have an instrument rating to fly a helicopter?
