How often are airport runways repaved?
They often will triple the normal number of repaving crews and equipment and attempt to complete the job in a single 24–36 hour period. It depends on the quality of materials and condition of the exististing surface and length of runway.
How are runways identified?
All runways are numbered based on the magnetic azimuth (compass bearing) in which a runway is oriented. Runway numbers are determined by rounding the compass bearing of one runway end to the nearest 10 degrees and truncating the last digit, meaning runways are numbered from 1 to 36—as per the diagram below.
How is a runway inspection carried out in the UK?
The answer will differ a bit from airfield to airfield but here is a typical inspection procedure for East Midlands in the UK (EGNX). The inspection is carried out first thing in the morning and last thing at night, then at 2 hour intervals throughout the day.

When did the FAA issue general aviation airports report?
The FAA conducted a national review of the general aviation airports resulting in two reports, General Aviation Airports: A National Asset issued in May 2012 and ASSET 2 issued in March 2014. These categories have been incorporated into the biennial NPIAS with criteria shown in Appendix C of the current NPIAS Report.
Do you have to get permission to enter the runway?
The vehicle must get permission from ATC to enter the runway and must report on leaving. Approach will co-ordinate the arrivals, by extending them slightly, so that no-one has to hold or go around (hopefully).
