What should the pilot do in the event of an inflight GPS failure?
Before GPS, navigating by VORs was THE navigation choice. So if GPS fails then the pilot simply reverts to using VOR navigation. that it should fly over or near during the flight and the pilot would then use those to keep an ongoing check that the aircraft was on course and flying at the estimated ground speed.

A fail of the GPS system wouldn’t cause any issue to properly trained pilots. Remember that aviation started in the early twentieth century! General aviation aircraft also have navigation capabilities other than GPS, although GPS has become the “gold standard.” Here’s the thing though, the two ground based and most widely used (or maybe installed is a better term) are Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range (VOR) and Automatic Direction Finder (ADF).
What happens if no GPS position can be calculated?
If no GPS position can be calculated, for example because of a failure of the GPS receiver, the aircraft has a number of alternative navigation systems. In no case GPS will be used as the sole means of navigation. There are always other navigation systems used in parallel.
What causes a GPS receiver to make an incorrect reading?
Worse so an incorrect value fed from the master system may cause an erroneous reading. The probability of the entire GPS system to fail is quite low. Individual satellites may fail, however that can be detected by the GPS receiver itself.
