When did the Su-47 enter service?
The Su-47 was introduced in January 2000 and completed the first stage of flight trials in December 2001. “The Su-47 has extremely high agility at subsonic speeds.” In May 2002, Sukhoi was selected as prime contractor for the next-generation Russian PAK FA fighter programme.

Is the SU-47 in use?
While serial production of the type never materialized, the sole aircraft produced served as a technology demonstrator prototype for a number of advanced technologies later used in the 4.5 generation fighter Su-35 and current fifth-generation jet fighter Su-57….Sukhoi Su-47.

Does the SU-47 have thrust vectoring?
Those engines had thrust vectoring. The intakes of the Su-47, which are notably large, are supplemented by the additional intakes on the fuselage. On the tail the Berkut is equipped with an additional radar and a tailhook. Although Sukhoi had financial problems, testing was continued.

However, nearing the end of the Cold War, the USSR developed the Sukhoi Su-47 Berkut to look at the potential of forward-swept wing designs. Sukhoi designed the Berkut to match the US’s Grumman X-29 program. The design of both aircraft are eerily similar as well! However, just like the X-29, the Su-47 was a complete failure. But why was this?
How is the Su-47 similar to the Su 35?
The Su-47 is of similar dimensions to previous large Sukhoi fighters, such as the Su-35. To reduce development costs, the Su-47 borrowed the forward fuselage, vertical tails, and landing gear of the Su-27 family.
Why did the USSR cancel the Su-47 program?
As such, the Soviets chose to cancel the Su-47 program, with the Americans cancelling the X-29 program too. Despite only ever being an experimental aircraft, only one Su-47 was built by Sukhoi. Nevertheless, it is still important to see how the aircraft operated when it was active!
