What is Vyse?
VYSE—best rate of climb speed with OEI. Marked with a blue radial line on most airspeed indicators. Above the single-engine absolute ceiling, VYSE yields the minimum rate of sink. It is the minimum speed to intentionally render the critical engine inoperative.
Why is Vyse important?
Vyse is “best-rate-of-climb airspeed, single-engine.” It is also the airspeed at which the airplane is able to maintain level flight with the least power and gain the most altitude per unit of time with an inoperative engine. Therefore if you cannot maintain at least level flight at Vyse, you darn sure cannot at Vxse.
How are the engines on a cruise ship powered?
On these ships, main engines are not connected to propeller shafts, and instead of it they are directly connected to big generators in order to produce electricity, which is sent in turn to electric motors, that then power and help turn the propellers.
When to use 100% power on a cruise?
In cruise, you are ideally using 100% power – if you use RPM as your power indication. This does not mean that you are using 100% of the power available at sea level though. You simply climb until 100% RPM will just maintain the ideal cruising speed for your aircraft.
What’s the best power setting for an airplane?
During cruise, the best power settings are those that equate to operating near the best Thrust Specific Fuel Consumption (TSFC) point. This is true regardless of the number of engines on the airplane, so the engines on a Twin are working no harder than the engines on a Quad.
What are the cruise settings on a Cessna 172P?
The Cessna 172P cruise performance chart lists the power settings and fuel consumption for different altitudes and temperatures. The Piper Arrow performance chart gives the RPM and manifold pressure for cruise settings of 55-, 65-, and 75-percent power at different altitudes.
