How do you plan a diversion?
Procedure for Diversion:
- Note time and point of diversion.
- Determine the alternate.
- Turn to an approximate heading towards the alternate.
- Plot the course on a sectional chart and measure the course.
- Close flight plan after landing.
How hard is PPL Checkride?
It will be a short, cross-country flight. You will need to prepare a flight plan within 1.5 hours. This part of the private pilot checkride will not be difficult at all. During the checkride, your Designated pilot examiner may ask a few questions relevant to flight or the airspace.

Use this advance intel to your advantage, but play along and act surprised in the moment. The diversion is supposed to be unplanned.
