Can a Turing machine simulate another Turing machine?
This is why we instroduce the notion of a universal turing machine (UTM), which along with the input on the tape, takes in the description of a machine M. The UTM can go on then to simulate M on the rest of the contents of the input tape. A universal turing machine can thus simulate any other machine.
Is the universal Turing-complete?
Is our universe Turing-complete? No! A Turing machine is a mathematical model that requires an unbounded number of memory cells. Despite its size the observable universe is very definitely finite and therefore cannot contain an infinite memory tape.
What are different types of Turing machine?
Variation of Turing Machine
- Multiple track Turing Machine:
- Two-way infinite Tape Turing Machine:
- Multi-tape Turing Machine:
- Multi-tape Multi-head Turing Machine:
- Multi-dimensional Tape Turing Machine:
- Multi-head Turing Machine:
- Non-deterministic Turing Machine:
Where can I find the Turing machine simulator?
The Turing machine simulator is written in Javascript/HTML, and uses jQuery. Saved machines are stored as Gists on GitHub. You can browse the code here on GitHub. Source code for this simulator is available on GitHub.
How to write a program in the Turing machine?
To use it: Load one of the example programs, or write your own in the Turing machine program area. See below for syntax. Enter something in the ‘Input’ area – this will be written on the tape initially as input to the machine. Click ‘Reset’ to initialise the machine. Click on ‘Run’ to start the Turing machine and run it until it halts (if ever).
Are there infinite number of States in a Turing machine?
Each machine has a finite number of states, and a finite number of possible symbols. These are fixed before the machine starts, and do not change as the machine runs. There are an infinite number of tape cells, however, extending endlessly to the left and right.
What are the symbols of a Turing machine?
All it takes to describe a Turing machine is a start state, blank symbol, and transition table. Here the states are right, carry, and done. The symbols are ‘ 1 ‘, ‘ 0 ‘, and ‘ ‘. We designate one state the start state , and one symbol the blank symbol (found on unmarked tape cells). A state and a symbol together map to an instruction.
