Do you wear a parachute when gliding?
Most glider pilots fly with an emergency parachute. As gliders tend to fly close to other gliders, that’s a reasonable precaution. All occupants of a glider should be briefed on use of the supplied emergency parachute. The BGA safety briefing ‘parachuting after a mid-air collision’ provides additional helpful advice.
Is a parachute required for aerobatics?
Therefore, when the only person on board is the pilot, and no others are carried, a parachute is not required. However, when a passenger is carried in an aircraft during aerobatics, all persons on board INCLUDING crewmember(s) are required to be wearing parachutes.

Why do jump pilots wear parachutes?
Flying skydivers opens up the door to many more incidents. For example if a jumper has a premature deployment while hanging outside the plane the canopy could rip the tail off. So pilots definitely want a chance to get out of the plane just like everyone else on the plane.
Why do aerobatic pilots wear parachutes?
Pilots and air crew did not make practice jumps in training, so bailing out meant that their first real experience with a parachute came under the highly stressful conditions of being in a doomed aircraft in the middle of combat.

Do you need a parachute to fly a glider?
Then, as I have mentioned before, I like to fly gliders whenever I can. Many glider pilots frequently wear parachutes. One reason is parachutes are required in sanctioned Soaring Society of America competitions, so many pilots own them.
Do you have to wear a parachute in an airplane?
The military learned this lesson early in the development of the airplane, and many of its flight crews have worn or have had access to parachutes in their aircraft since the WW I era. Today, few fighter pilots would dare takeoff with a nonfunctioning ejection seat or parachute.
Do you need emergency parachutes in the UK?
Emergency parachutes are neither installed on aircraft as a component nor are they required by the UK ANO or Commission Regulation (EU) No 965/2012 (Air Operations). Emergency parachutes are not subject of EC Regulation No. 1321/2014 (Part M).
What kind of parachute do skydivers need to use?
