Can a student pilot fly with a non CFI?
Before embarking on any solo flight, a student pilot must have a current and appropriate endorsement from a flight instructor. Check to make sure you have these endorsements, and that they’re current, before flying. Without the proper endorsements, you are essentially flying without a license. That’s not allowed.
Do you have to be a pilot to be a flight instructor?
While there is no specific time requirement to become a flight instructor, all flight instructors must obtain at least a commercial pilot license as part of their eligibility requirements. The commercial pilot license requires 250 hours of flight time as a pilot, with several associated sub-requirements.

When does a CFI have to be an instructor?
FAR 61.195 (h) has some stipulations on when a CFI may provide training for a student seeking to obtain an initial flight instructor certificate. The major points here are that the instructor has been an instructor for more than 24 calendar months and has given at least 200 hours of flight training.
Can a CFI give instruction in a home built aircraft?
Not all CFI’s are willing to give instruction in homebuilt aircraft. Another issue is whether the aircraft in question meets all the requirements of training for the license or rating sought.
Can a flight instructor teach without a type rating?
(e) Training in an aircraft that requires a type rating. A flight instructor may not give flight instruction, including instrument training, in an aircraft that requires the pilot in command to hold a type rating unless the flight instructor holds a type rating for that aircraft on his or her pilot certificate.
