What are center of gravity limits?
Center of gravity (CG) limits are specified longitudinal (forward and aft) and/or lateral (left and right) limits within which the aircraft’s center of gravity must be located during flight. The CG limits are indicated in the airplane flight manual. The area between the limits is called the CG range of the aircraft.
Is the airplane loaded within limits 1271?
Is the airplane loaded within limits? A) No, the weight is acceptable, but the CG is aft of the aft limit….5650.
Empty weight (oil is included) | 1,271 lb |
---|---|
Empty weight moment (in-lb/1,000) | 102.04 |
Pilot and copilot | 400 lb |
Rear seat passenger | 140 lb |
Cargo | 100 lb |
What factors affect Centre of gravity?
Factors affecting Stability:
- Relationship of line of gravity to base of support.
- The height of then Center of Gravity.
- The size and shape of base of support.
- The mass of the body.
- Supporting surface ( friction inclination, irregularities).
- Segmentation.
- Visual and psychological factors.
- Physiological factors.
When does the lateral center of gravity become important?
The lateral center of gravity may become important if the fuel is not loaded evenly into tanks on both sides of the aircraft, or (in the case of small aircraft) when passengers are predominantly on one side of the aircraft (such as a pilot flying alone in a small aircraft).
What happens when the center of gravity is outside the acceptable range?
When the center of gravity or weight of an aircraft is outside the acceptable range, the aircraft may not be able to sustain flight, or it may be impossible to maintain the aircraft in level flight in some or all circumstances, in some events resulting in load shifting.
Why are there two bends in the forward C G limit line?
When one views a center of gravity limit chart, in this case a C-182T chart, one notices that the forward C.G. line has two small bends in it, one around 2250# mark and the other around the 2675# mark. Why the two bends in the forward C.G. limit line?
Can a tail mounted engine limit the forward CG?
For tail mounted engines, full power may limit the forward CG; for wing mounted engines, full power may limit the aft CG. Takeoff Rotation: ensure your aircraft can rotate at V R − 10 k t or V R − 7 % at takeoff flap at forward CG.
