Is there a passenger weight limit on airlines?
There is no set weight limit for passengers on commercial flights in the U.S., but some airlines, most notably Southwest, require customers who cannot fit in one seat to book a second. If the flight does not oversell, the airline will refund the price of the second seat.
How do planes hold so much weight?
A plane’s engines are designed to move it forward at high speed. That makes air flow rapidly over the wings, which throw the air down toward the ground, generating an upward force called lift that overcomes the plane’s weight and holds it in the sky.
