What are the differences between TCAS I and TCAS II?
TCAS I provides traffic advisories (TAs) to assist the pilot in the visual acquisition of intruder aircraft. TCAS II provides TAs and resolution advisories (RAs), i.e., recommended escape maneuvers, in the vertical dimension to either increase or maintain the existing vertical separation between aircraft.
What are the different types of TCAS operation mode?
TCAS can be currently operated in the following modes:
- Standby: TCAS does not issue any interrogations and the transponder only replies to discrete interrogations.
- Transponder: the transponder replies to all appropriate ground and TCAS interrogations and TCAS remains in stand-by.
What are the differences between resolution advisory RA and traffic advisory TA )?
A resolution advisory that advises the pilot to deviate from the current flight path. Preventive RA. A resolution advisory that advises the pilot to avoid certain deviations from the current flight path but does not require any change in the current flight path. Traffic advisory (TA).
What’s the difference between TCAS I and TCAS II?
TCAS I and II differ primarily by their alerting capability. TCAS I issues ‘traffic advisories’ (TAs) to the pilot, alerting him to the impending collision. TCAS II provides the pilots with resolution advisories (RAs) in addition to TAs. Basically the TCAS provides the pilot with the required escape manevores in th vertical direction.
Do you need ATC interface to use TCAs?
There is no need for radar or ATC interface for this system to work, provided both aircraft are equipped with the proper transponder that reports altitude. Even if one aircraft does not have TCAS, the other aircraft can take evasive action based on TCAS Advisories.
How does the traffic collision avoidance system ( TCAs ) work?
TCAS is communicating both ways, constantly reading the parameters of all surrounding TCAS-devices (when existent) and place them on a screen. (see above). The Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) was designed not only to warn, but also to provide eluding propositions for pilots independent from air traffic control.
Can a mel be used with a TCAS?
TCAS is not a mandatory accessory at all conditions of flight as per the regulations currently existing. Therefore, the MEL might in most cases permit flight with the TCAS equipment unserviceable.
