Can dc voltage be stepped up?
DC-to-dc switching converters are used to change one dc voltage to another efficiently. High efficiency dc-to-dc converters come in three basic topologies: step-down (buck), step-up (boost), and step-down/step-up (buck/boost).
Why is it not possible to step up or step down the dc voltage?
When a d.c voltage source is applied across the primary of the transformer,the current in the primary coil remains constant. Hence there is no change in the magnetic flux linked with the secondary. Therefore the voltage across the secondary coil is zero. Thus a transformer can’t step up dc voltage.
How do you step down DC without a transformer?
Connect one end of the voltage dropping resistor to the negative battery terminal using a jumper. Connect the other end of the voltage dropping resistor to one of the terminals on the sealed beam lamp with a jumper. Complete the circuit by connecting the other terminal on the lamp to the positive battery terminal.

Can we step up or step down DC voltage level?
E.g. A step down transformer will take 240 volts at 1 Amp on the primary coil as input and will deliver 24 volts at 10 Amps on the secondary coil as output. How do you convert AC voltage to DC voltage?
Divide the AC voltage by the square root of 2 to find the DC voltage. Since an AC power supply sends voltage in alternating waves, DC voltage will be lower once you convert it. Write out the formula V AC /√ (2) and replace V AC with the AC voltage you found with your multimeter.
Is there a loss in voltage from DC to AC?
