What is an ORing controller?
ORing controller ICs are used to realize such redundant power supply configurations. Essentially, in this scheme, two voltage inputs are ORed to a common output. In the event one input supply fails or shorts, the ORing circuit protects the redundant bus and the system.
What is or ing FET controller?
Renesas’ ORing MOSFET Controllers with a suitably sized N-Channel power MOSFET(s) increase power distribution efficiency and availability when replacing a power ORing diode in high-current applications. They provide gate drive voltage for the MOSFET(s) with a fully integrated charge pump.
What is ideal diode controller?
6 What is an Ideal Diode Controller? An ideal diode controller drives an external N-channel MOSFET to emulate an ideal diode with a very low forward voltage drop and negligible reverse current. The power MOSFET is connected in such way that its body diode blocks reverse current when the MOSFET is turned OFF.
What is Active ORing?
An active ORing solution is the combination of a Power MOSFET and a controller IC. Once the fault has been detected, the controller is required to turn off the MOSFET as fast as possible, and thus in turn isolate the input fault from the redundant bus and prevent any further reverse current.
What is a power mux?
A Power Multiplexer (Power MUX) is a set of electronic switches used to select and transition between two or more input power paths to a single output. This application note explores each of the different topologies of Power MUX solutions, different switchover behavior and what protection features are available.
What is ORing PSU?
ORing protects the load bus by blocking shorted-output power conversion units, and isolating their discharged output capacitors when a unit is connected during system operation. Active or passive load sharing is commonly used in systems with N+1 redundancy to keep all the power conversion blocks online.
What is voltage multiplexer?
A Power Multiplexer (Power MUX) is a set of electronic switches used to select and transition between two or more input power paths to a single output.
What is mux in microcontroller?
In electronics, a multiplexer (or mux; spelled sometimes as multiplexor), also known as a data selector, is a device that selects between several analog or digital input signals and forwards the selected input to a single output line. The selection is directed by a separate set of digital inputs known as select lines.
Why do you need Renesas Oring FET controller?
Renesas’ ORing MOSFET Controllers with a suitably sized N-Channel power MOSFET (s) increase power distribution efficiency and availability when replacing a power ORing diode in high-current applications. They provide gate drive voltage for the MOSFET (s) with a fully integrated charge pump.
Why are ideal diodes and Oring controllers important?
Ideal diode & ORing controllers Our ideal diodes and ORing controllers offer space-saving and scalable solutions to protect your system against reverse voltage or reverse current. These devices significantly reduce the energy typically lost across the forward voltage drop of traditional discrete silicon or Schottky diodes.
Is the max5079 Oring MOSFET controller active in production?
Active in Production. The MAX5079 ORing MOSFET controller replaces ORing diodes in high-reliability redundant, parallel-connected power supplies. Despite their low forward-voltage drop, ORing Schottky diodes cause excessive power dissipation at high currents.
What are the different types of or-ing controllers?
Adjustable current limit, Analog current monitor, Integrated FET, ON/OFF control, Reverse polarity protection, Reverse current blocking
