What does LC filter do?
Low-pass Filters(LPF) Low-pass filters are filter circuits that pass DC and low-frequency signals and cut high-frequency signals. They are the most widely used filter circuits and are mainly used to cut high-frequency noise. In audio, they are also used to cut treble/mid-range sound components of bass speakers.

Why do I need a filter on my DC transformer?
This filter reduces the pulsating output ripple caused by the regular transfer of power across the transformer. Each switching cycle will create a pulse of current that needs to be absorbed by the output capacitor. In between the power transfer cycles, the output capacitor has to supply the load by itself.
