Can you parallel two LED drivers?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. In order to parallel two MEAN WELL LED drivers both would need to have a ‘current sharing’ function. There is a general belief that you can connect any two power supplies in parallel if you use two diodes to isolate the supplies.
How many LEDs can you run off 12v?
You can use as many branches of 3 leds as the power supply can power.
Do LEDs have A constant voltage drop?
The voltage drop across an LED is approximately constant over a wide range of operating current; therefore, a small increase in applied voltage greatly increases the current. More complex, current source circuits are required when driving high-power LEDs for illumination to achieve correct current regulation.
Do you need constant current or constant voltage for LEDs?
If you’re building an LED fixture or replacing a constant-current driver, it’s important to verify that the output current and voltage of the driver is compatible with the LEDs’ current and voltage. If your LED product already has a constant-current driver or uses resistors in the LED array, you might need a constant-voltage power supply.
How are series connected LEDs driven with constant current?
Multiple strings of series-connected LEDs can be placed in parallel and driven by multi-output constant-current drivers to limit the drive voltage. When many strings of LEDs are used in series, the most efficient way to drive them is with a constant-current power supply, which connects the LEDs directly across the terminals of the power supply.
Can a constant voltage LED strip be used?
Constant voltage LED drivers are often used to power LED strips. There are two common architectures used in the manufacturing of LED strip. Most low cost LED strip is manufactured using a simple constant voltage architecture, as shown in the diagram below.
What is the difference between constant current and constant voltage?
Constant current drivers are designed for LEDs that require a fixed output current and a range of voltages. Constant current drivers usually list their specifications on the device, with only one output current rating and a range of voltages that vary based on the wattage of the LED.
