What is a passive summing mixer?
Most analog summing designs take a number of mono inputs and assign them to the stereo bus via either pan pots or L-C-R switches. What we end up with is a passive bus mixer: 4 or 8 stereo pairs are summed via L and R buses, which are then sent to external microphone preamps for makeup gain.
What is summing to mono?
Sum-to-mono combines the left and right audio input signals of the power amplifier to provide a mono signal output to the speakers. This is desired when there is no real need for a stereo pair of speakers such as in a narrow hallway, or in very a large open area such as a hall.
How do I bridge my stereo to mono?
Connect a speaker wire or cable to the “-” output of the second stereo channel. Connect the other end of the cable to the “-” terminal of the speaker cabinet. The amplifier is successfully bridged to mono.
How does a load cell summing box work?
A load cell summing box (also known as a J-box) accepts inputs from multiple load cells and combines their outputs into one output that represents the total load. All load cells should have the same capacity and outputs within 3.2% of each other. For larger variances, resistors must be added.
Should Bass always be in mono?
sowari Moderator Moderator. sub bass must always, always be mono. some producers always have their kicks mono, where as others also do the same for snares.
Which bass frequencies should be Mono?
As a general rule of thumb, it’s considered common practice to sum anything below 200hz to mono. This means your bass, sub-bass, and kick drum will almost always be summed to mono. Remember, some bass instruments don’t contain only bass frequencies and may have mid or high ends.
Why do I need a stereo to mono cable?
For example, maybe you wanted to connect the stereo outputs of your computer, CD player, iPod, iPad, Android tablet or phone into a single 1/4″ input channel on an audio mixer. Or maybe you needed to sum a stereo signal to mono for connecting to a single subwoofer.
Are there any cables that do stereo summing?
There are cables on the market that *claim* to do it, including the Hosa CMP-103, CMP-105, and CMP-110. But none of them do it *properly*. These cables simply short the two outputs (tip/ring or left/right) together, and do not utilize any resistors. This works ok on some devices, but doesn’t work at all for others.
When to use the Mix 2 1 preamp?
The MIX 2:1 works with mic-level signals as well, which is useful when you’re low on available input channels, or want to process two mics using the same signal chain. Ensure phantom power is disengaged when connecting the Mix 2:1 to a microphone preamp.
What kind of resistors do you need for mono cable?
So you get a perfectly summed mono signal with no distortion or phasing, and it won’t damage the outputs of your device. For those who are interested in building your own cable, I typically use 470 ohm 1/8-watt 1% resistors.
