What is delay in digital signal processing?
A digital delay line is a discrete element in digital filter theory, which allows a signal to be delayed by a number of samples. If the delay is an integer multiple of samples, digital delay lines are often implemented as circular buffers. This means that integer delays can be computed very efficiently.
What is electronic delay?
In electronics, digital circuits and digital electronics, the propagation delay, or gate delay, is the length of time which starts when the input to a logic gate becomes stable and valid to change, to the time that the output of that logic gate is stable and valid to change.
What type of delay can be introduced in the digital circuits?
Latency Problems Digital signals insert circuit delays, called latency. Latency is normally measured in milliseconds (msec), microseconds (μsec), or nanoseconds (nsec).
What is delayed signal?
Signal delay is defined as that delay which maximizes the correlation between input signal and output signal of a system. Its derivation requires splitting of the delay into the additive components linearity delay and inter- cept delay.
What causes queuing delay?
Queuing delay may be caused by delays at the originating switch, intermediate switches, or the call receiver servicing switch. In a data network, queuing delay is the sum of the delays between the request for service and the establishment of a circuit to the called data terminal equipment (DTE).
How do you shift a signal time?
Time shifting is, as the name suggests, the shifting of a signal in time. This is done by adding or subtracting an integer quantity of the shift to the time variable in the function.
What is time reversal of a signal?
Whenever the time in a signal gets multiplied by -1, the signal gets reversed. It produces its mirror image about Y or X-axis. This is known as Reversal of the signal. Reversal can be classified into two types based on the condition whether the time or the amplitude of the signal is multiplied by -1.
How to delay a TTL signal in a circuit?
I need to design a circuit to delay an input signal by a given amount of time (around a second, trimmable). The delay should be set through the use of passive components (resistors or capacitors). The input signal is basically a TTL level that goes high at a certain time, stays high for some time (100ms should be nice value), then goes back low.
How to delay an analog signal for variable amount?
The delay control signal was derived by comparing the played sync pulse to an external reference sync pulse. Back in the 70’s, I built one as part of a project to resurrect an old clunker with all new electronics. A second corrector (the COLORTEC) fine-tuned the signal with another variable delay line.
How is delay defined in a digital circuit?
This is indeed the very standard way of implementing a delay in a digital circuit. Well, just use a larger R, then! The delay is defined by the the product of R and C, so you can trade one for the other – and large-valued resistors are easier to get exact than large-valued capacitors.
How to adjust delay and output pulse width?
You can adjust both delay and output pulse width by varying the values of Rext. If you don’t need to randomly terminate the output pulse you can tie the ‘B’ inputs and the clear inputs high.
