What are compensation capacitors?
1. A capacitor whose purpose is to be connected either in series or in parallel with a coil in a circuit. The resulting LC circuit acts as a resonator at a certain frequency denominated as the resonant frequency of the circuit, in which the reactances of the capacitance and the inductance cancel each other out.
Why dominant pole is important?
One way to make many such systems easier to think about is to approximate the system by a lower order system using a technique called the dominant pole approximation. This approximation assumes that the slowest part of the system dominates the response, and that the faster part(s) of the system can be ignored.
What are the problems with series compensation?
Disadvantages 1. Increase in fault current 2. Mal operation of distance relay- if the degree of compensation and location is not proper. 3.
What is dominant pole and its effect to a control system?
The dominant pole approximation is a method for approximating a (more complicated) high order system with a (simpler) system of lower order if the location of the real part of some of the system poles are sufficiently close to the origin compared to the other poles.
Which is the most suited objective of line compensation?
The ultimate objective of applying reactive shunt compensation in a transmission system is to increase the transmittable power. This may be required to improve the steady-state transmission characteristics as well as the stability of the system.
What are the objectives of line compensation?
The purpose of series compensation is to cancel part of the series inductive reactance of the line using series capacitors. This helps in (i) increase of maximum power transfer (ii) reduction in power angle for a given amount of power transfer (iii) increased loading.
What does’poles’refer to when you talk about filters?
Sometimes filters are referred to in terms of dB/Octave (a 24dB/O is a common low pass filter setup, for example), however sometimes they are referred to in terms of ‘Poles’ (I’ve seen switchable 2/4Pole LPFs). What does ‘Poles’ refer to when you are talking about filters, and how does changing the number of ‘Poles’ change the resulting sound?
How is pole splitting related to dominant pole compensation?
One of them is dominant pole compensation. “When a capacitor is introduced between the input and output sides of the amplifier with the intention of moving the pole lowest in frequency (usually an input pole) to lower frequencies, pole splitting causes the pole next in frequency (usually an output pole) to move to a higher frequency.”
Why is the pole closer to the origin called a dominant?
Pole placement method is a controller design method in which you determine the places of the closed loop system poles on the complex plane by setting a controller gain K. Poles describe the behaviour of linear dynamical systems. Through use of feedback you are attempting to change that behaviour in a way that is more favorable for you.
When to move dominant pole to lower frequencies?
The point of moving first (dominant) pole to lower frequencies is to move the second pole at the point of operation, where amplifier gain is already lower than unity.
