How do you calculate the nominal power of a motor?
1-phase motor
- In = rated demand (in amps)
- Pn = nominal power (in kW)
- U = voltage between phases for 3-phase motors and voltage between the terminals for single-phase motors (in volts).
- η = per-unit efficiency, i.e. output kW / input kW.
- cos φ = power factor, i.e. kW input / kVA input.
How is VFD output power calculated?
EXAMPLE
- Step 1: 60 hp × 0.746 = 44.76 kw1
- Step 2: 0.28 ratio × 44.76 kw1 = 12.53 kw2
- Step 3: 0.88 ratio × 44.76 kw1 = 39.39 kw3
- Step 4: 39.39 kw3 – 12.53 kw2 = 26.86 kw4
- Step 5: 26.86 kw4 × 8,760 hr × $0.12 per kwh = $28,235 (annual savings)
How do you calculate nominal current?
For the nominal current calculation, you have to take the actual power used by the luminaire and divide that by the used voltage to get the nominal current. For example, a 75 Watt luminaire will have a nominal current of 75W / 230V = 0.33A.
What is the efficiency of VFD?
A VFD is very efficient. Typical efficiencies of 97% or more are available at full load. At reduced loads the efficiency drops. Typically, VFDs over 10 HP have over 90% efficiency for loads greater than 25% of full load.
What is nominal current and voltage?
Nominal voltage is a value assigned to a circuit or system to designate its voltage class conveniently(e.g. 120/240 volts, 300 volts, 480Y/277 volts). The actual voltage at which a circuit operates can vary from the nominal voltage within a range that permits satisfactory operation of equipment.
What is meant by nominal current?
Nominal current is the same as the rated current. It is the current drawn by the motor while delivering rated mechanical output at its shaft.
What is VFD power ratio?
Voltage and frequency ratio remains constant from 0 – 60 Hertz. For a 460 motor this ratio is 7.6 volts/Hz. To calculate this ratio divide the motor voltage by 60 Hz. At low frequencies the voltage will be low, as the frequency increases the voltage will increase.
Is it possible to calculate output current from VFD?
For the geeks, we can calculate output current from VFD to a reasonable accuracy if we know the motor power factor and the load torque or KW. It should be kept in mind that the output current from a VFD is very noisy. You could get different readings depending on the type of meter you are using to measure.
What is the nominal power of a VFD?
The VFD display shows the actual power in percentage of the Motor Nominal Power (parameter 99.09). I am in doubt that the value of the parameter 99.09 (parameter group # 99, parameter # 09) is not set correctly. Please verify the value of this parameter. Its value should be 7 kW (motor nameplate kW).
How does torque affect the current of a VFD?
Lower the torque, lower the current will be. It is the total power in to the drive that must be compared to the power output of the drive (minus the power lost in the drive operation). Comparing current between input and output is not a correct comparison. Input current of the VFD will be the real current that produces useful work or torque.
How does a variable frequency drive ( VFD ) work?
A variable frequency drive (VFD) transforms the input mains of constant voltage and frequency into a voltage and frequency range that can be varied to control motor torque. Troubleshooting at the input starts with testing power and supply.
