Which LED driver do I need?
We recommend choosing a driver with a wattage capability at least 10% higher than the wattage the LED tape requires to ensure a longer lifespan. For example, 5m of 6w LED tape requires 30 watts. We would recommend using a driver with an output capability of 33 watts or more to power this tape.
What is an IR driver?
The LED driver controls the IR light intensity and strobes it at the right frequency and duty cycle. Infrared (IR) cameras, utilizing an IR- LED in combination with a photo sensor, help recognize the hazardous microsleep that can affect motorists.
How does an IR LED work?
An IR LED (infrared light emitting diode) is a solid state lighting (SSL) device that emits light in the infrared range of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum. Used with infrared cameras, IR LEDs can act like a spot light while remaining invisible to the naked eye.
What is an IR Dash Cam?
Either way, the IR dash cam is a two-channel dash cam system that comes with a front-facing camera and a secondary camera that comes fitted with infrared lights for in-cabin recording. IR dash cams utilizes the infrared light to invisibly illuminate dark vehicle interiors at night.
Do you need interior dash cam?
Unless you’re particularly concerned about getting rear-ended, or if you’re a professional driver and you want to record activity inside your car, you probably don’t need a rear or interior camera (as the Vantrue S1 and N2S have, respectively).
What kind of IR LED circuit do I Need?
For this project, we are going to use the one provided by Sparkfun, the YoungSun LED Model No. YSL-R531FR2C-F1, a 850nm IR LED. The IR LED circuit we will build is shown below: All that the LED needs is 1.5VDC dropped across it. This is the datasheet for the IR LED we are using for this circuit: IR LED Datasheet.
What kind of driver is used for LED backlighting?
LED drivers for backlighting applications are specialized circuits designed to drive one or more strings of LEDs. Selected LED Drivers for LED Backlighting, Small Displays. Selected LED Drivers for LED Backlighting, Medium/Large Displays. Power Management ICs with Integrated LED Backlight Drivers.
What should the forward voltage of an IR LED be?
This is specified in the forward voltage specification. The forward voltage is the amount of voltage that should be dropped across the terminals, anode and cathode, of the LED. The datasheet also specifies that the LED should receive a maximum forward current of 50mA. This means that no more than 50mA should flow through the IR LED circuit.
Why is it important to know about LED drivers?
An LED driver is an electrical device that regulates power to an LED or a string of LEDs. It is a crucial piece to an LED circuit and to operate without one will result in system failure. Using one is very important in preventing damage to your LEDs as the forward voltage (V f) of a high-power LED changes with temperature.
