What is the meaning of constant voltage?
Constant voltage refers to the ability to fluctuate output current to maintain a set voltage. Constant voltage can be used for applications where the workpieces do not have flat surfaces, e.g. crossed wires, and where the resistance varies significantly, and for extremely short welds (less than 1 millisecond).
How do you check voltage on a DC power supply?
Testing your power supply
- Plug your power supply into an AC outlet.
- Red probe goes into the tip.
- Turn on your multimeter and set it to read DC voltage.
- Take the red (positive) probe from your multimeter and stick it into the end of the power supply plug.
Where do you find the rating on a DC power supply?

How does a regulated DC power supply work?
A regulated supply actively controls its output voltage. These contain additional circuitry that can tweak the output voltage up and down. This is done continuously to compensate for input voltage variations and variations in the current the load is drawing.
What’s the difference between current rating and voltage?
The current rating of a supply is what it can deliver, not what it will always force thru the load somehow. In that sense, unlike with voltage, the current rating of a power supply must be at least what the device wants but there is no harm in it being higher.
What happens when a DC power supply is reading 12.56v?
If you get a reading of “-12.56V” then your probes are attached in reverse. If this happens and you are positive you connected your probes correctly, double check the polarity on your power supply’s label and make sure the circuit you will be powering with this unit is designed to handle this polarity.
