Do I really need a relay?
If you are running a higher amp light then a relay can save you money as you can run thin wire to the switches and thick wire to the light. Relays are good if you want to trigger things off other loads in a jeep as they take so little power to activate that it is not noticed by the computer.
Do I need a relay for a fan?
Most parts stores carry toggle switches and/or push-pull switches that will handle anywhere from 30-60 amps, so that would work. If you’re using one of those thermostatically-controlled deals (or a low amp rated manual switch) you should use a relay.
Do you need a relay for rock lights?
Don’t need fuse or a relay when you hook these led rock lights up and install in any type under car . Like our most customers, they usually use 18-20 gauge wire on Rock Lights. Like our most customers, they usually use 18-20 gauge wire on Rock Lights.
Can one relay run two fans?
Yes, you can control dual fans separately. You can use dual thermostatic switches that control each fan individually for example. Start with taking both of the positive wires from the fans and connect them to the yellow wires on each relay.
What fuse should I use for rock lights?
You would want a 15 amp fuse for that circuit. You would also want to use larger than 22 gauge wire to feed it. While 22 ga. would be fine to each individual light, the feed line should be 16 gauge.
What wire do you use for rock lights?
18-20 gauge
Like our most customers, they usually use 18-20 gauge wire on the rock lights. The gauge you use depends on how far you’re running the rock lights.
Do I need to use a relay for LED lights?
A relay is an electrical switch that lets a low current circuit control a high current circuit such as a large LED light bar. If you are using a light pod that does not have a very large amp draw, you may not need a relay switch, but if you are using a larger LED light bar, they are a must have.
What can a relay be used for in a car?
Relays can be used to switch a low-current trigger to high current, switch a circuit on or off, reverse polarity, and much more. When adding LED lights, such as off-road light bars, driving/work lights, or other auxiliary lights to a vehicle, you must add a circuit to power the light adequately.
How many amps does a LED light bar have?
LED Light bar, that has an amp draw of about 17.2 amps, which may be too much for that little switch to handle. As a result, you could end up overheating the switch, melting the wires, and reducing the current that is getting to your lights, making them not as bright.
What kind of wire do you need for a relay?
In this case, you need to wire the dash switch in between the trigger current, i.e. the line you spliced off your high beam wire or your backup light wire. With our wiring harness, all you need to do is cut the wire coming from the switch to the 30 prong on the relay, and wire it to your high beam lead or your backup light wire.
